ब्रह्मा जी बोले हे नारद अब हम तुम्हारे शर्मा अवतार का वर्णन सुनते हैं पूर्व समय में दीप्ति के दो पुत्र का नाम शिशु तथा कनक अक्ष नमक उत्पन्न हुए जो देवताओं के बड़े शत्रु थे संसार में केवल उन्हें किया गया चलती थी उन्होंने देवताओं को बड़ा दुख पहुंचा और अधिक पापों के कारण संसार में बड़े उपग्रह उठने लगे उनमें से जो छोटा भाई कनक अक्षय था उसको तो विष्णु जी ने मारा अवतार लेकर मार डाला कनक शिशु के चार पुत्र उत्पन्न हुए उनमें सबसे छोटा पुत्र पहले था वह बड़ा सतवादी तपस्वी धर्म निष्ठा आत्मज्ञानी तथा विष्णु जी का परम भक्त हुआ उसने उत्पन्न होते ही विष्णु जी की पूजा की विष्णु जी के अतिरिक्त उसने संसार में अन्य किसी वस्तु को नहीं देखा वह विष्णु जी के अस्त्र अक्षर मंत्र का नित्य प्रति आनंद से पाठ करता था पहले डी गुरु के भी विष्णु जी का अस्त्र अक्ष मंत्र जाप करता था गुरु जो राजनीतिक आदि विषय पढ़ाते प्रहलाद उनसे ना पढ़ना एक दिन कनक शिशु ने परिचित परीक्षा लेने के लिए पहलाद को अपने पास बुलाकर अध्ययन का हाल पूछा और कहा है पुत्र तुमने कब तक जो गुरु से पढ़ा हो वह हमें सुनाओ हे नारद पिता के ऐसे वचन सुनकर पहलाद ने उत्तर दिया है पिता मैं उन विष्णु जी का नाम पड़ा था जिनकी सेवा में दोनों लोग में आनंद प्राप्त होता है संसार में उन बैकुंठ वास विष्णु जी के समान और कोई नहीं है कनक शिशु ने पहलाद कैसे वचन सुनकर उसकी अपनी गोद से फेंक दिया और यह कहा कि पहलाद विष्णु कौन है जिसके चरणों की प्रतीत तुम्हें उत्पन्न हुई है संसार में मुझे बड़ा और कौन है पिता के ऐसे वचन सुनकर पहलाद बिल्कुल भयभीत नहीं हुआ उसने ऊंचे शब्दों से विष्णु जी का नाम लेते हुए कहा है पिता मुझ पर उपकार करने वाले वही है यह कहकर पहलाद विष्णु जी के चरणों में और भी अपनी भक्ति का उपदेश देकर उनके हृदय में भक्ति भाव उत्पन्न करने लगा यह नारद वह धर्म बहुत बड़ा आनंद प्रदान करने वाले हैं जिसमें अपने स्वयं के चरणों की सेवा ना छुट्टी निदान अपने पुत्र की ऐसी भक्ति देखकर कनक शिशु ने व्यक्ति को बुलाकर पाल हाथ को हमारे डालने की आज्ञा दी और उनसे कहा यह बालक हमारा शत्रु होकर हमारे विरोधियों की सेवा करती है इसलिए इनका तुरंत वध कर दिया जाए दैत्य्या ने कनक शिशु की यह आजा सुनकर पहलाद को अनेक प्रकार से करने का बहुत प्रयत्न किया परंतु पहलाद के शरीर में एक भी घाव न लग लगता भी कैसे भगवान विष्णु जी तो पहले से ही उसकी रक्षा करने के लिए तैयार थे इस प्रकार विष्णु जी ने पहलाद की रक्षा की जब कनक शिशु ने पहलाद को न करने का समाचार सुना तब वह बहुत क्रोधित हुआ उसने पहलाद को अपने पास बुलाया और बोला है पुत्र तू मुझे बात की तेरा स्वामी कौन है और कहां है मैं तेरा वध करता हूं यदि वह वास्तव में तेरा स्वामी है तो मुझे तेरी रक्षा करें यह कहकर वह अपना खड़क लेकर पहलाद का सिर काटने को तैयार हो गया परंतु पहलाद को किसी प्रकार का भाई ना हुआ जिससे उत्तर से यह उत्तर दिया कि मेरा स्वामी सब जगह वर्तमान है तथा सब में विद्यमान है उनके शिवाय मुझे कोई नहीं मार सकता स्वामी अपने भक्तों के सदैव रक्षा करता है हे नारद पहलाद के ऐसे वचन सुनकर कनक शिशु ने कहा है पुत्र अगर यह बात सत्य है तो फिर वह इसे खंबे में क्यों नहीं दिखाई देता इतना कह कर उसने खंबे पर तलवार चलाई तलवार के लगते ही खंबे में से अत्यंत भयंकर शब्द हुआ और भक्तों के पलक विष्णु जी नर हरी रूप होकर इस खंभे से प्रगट हो गए उन्होंने ब्रह्मा जी का और स्थित रखकर कनक शिशु का उधर क्या डाला इसके पश्चात नरहरि ने बड़ा भयानक शब्द किया जो तीनों लोक में गूंज गया उसने तीनों लोग भयभीत हुए पृथ्वी कांप उठी पर्वत जलने लगे तथा दिग्गज अपने स्थान पर स्थिर न रह सके है नारद नरहरि का ऐसा भयंकर स्वरूप देख कर देवता वहां ना ठहर सके और कुछ दूर भाग गए उसे समय विष्णु जी में तथा बड़े-बड़े देवता दूर से ही उसकी स्तुति करने लगे फिर मैंने पहले हाथ से कहा है पहले तुम नरहरि को शांत करके सब लोगों के दुख दूर करो पहलाद मेरी बात को मानकर नरहरि के पास पहुंचे परंतु तब भी उनका क्रोध शांत ना हुआ वरुण हुए और भी जोर से चिल्लाने लगे तब इंद्र आदि समस्त देवता वहां से भाग कर शिवजी की शरण में गए महेंद्र तथा अधिक पाल आदि देवताओं ने शिवजी की स्तुति करके उनसे यह निवेदन किया कि हम सब आपकी शरण में आए हैं वास्तु आप ऐसे उपाय कीजिए जिससे नरहरि का क्रोध शांत हो हे प्रभु इसी प्रकार का क्रोध दक्ष के यज्ञ को विद्वान स करने के लिए वीरभद्र ने किया था उसको आप ही से दूर किया था आप हमको आपके अतिरिक्त कोई दूसरा इस क्रोध अग्नि को शांत करने वाला दिखाई नहीं देता

Brahma Ji said, O Narada, now we will listen to the description of your Sharma avatar. In the past, Dipti gave birth to two sons named Shishu and Kanak Akshay, who were the biggest enemies of the gods. They were the only enemies in the world. They caused great sorrow to the gods and due to many sins, many satellites started rising in the world. Out of them, the younger brother Kanak Akshay was killed by Lord Vishnu by taking an avatar. Kanak Shishu had four sons. The youngest son was the first one. He was a great virtuous ascetic, devoted to religion, self-aware and a great devotee of Lord Vishnu. As soon as he was born, he worshipped Lord Vishnu. Apart from Lord Vishnu, he did not see anything else in the world. He used to recite Lord Vishnu's weapon Akshar Mantra with joy every day. He used to recite Lord Vishnu's weapon Akshar Mantra even before his Guru. Prahalad did not want to study from the Guru who taught politics etc. One day, Kanak Shishu called Prahalad to test him and asked about his studies and said, "Son, tell us what you have studied from your Guru, O Narada." On hearing such words from his father, Prahalad replied, "Father, I am a devotee of Lord Vishnu." He was named after the one whose service gives pleasure to both. There is no one else in the world like that Vaikunth dweller Vishnu Ji. On hearing such words of his father, Kanak Shishu threw Prahlad from his lap and said that Prahlad, who is Vishnu, whose feet have given you the vision, who else is greater than me in the world. On hearing such words of his father, Prahlad was not scared at all. He took the name of Vishnu Ji in loud words and said that father, he is the one who will do favour on me. Saying this, Prahlad started preaching his devotion towards the feet of Vishnu Ji and started creating devotion in his heart. This religion is very blissful in which one does not leave the service of one's own feet. Finally, on seeing such devotion of his son, Kanak Shishu called a person and ordered him to put his hand on his hand and told him that this child being our enemy serves our opponents, so he should be killed immediately. On hearing this request of Kanak Shishu, the demon tried a lot to harm Prahlad in many ways, but not even a single wound could be inflicted on Prahlad's body. Lord Vishnu Ji was already ready to protect him. Thus Vishnu Ji protected Prahlad. When Kanak Shishu heard the news of Prahlad not doing anything, he became very angry. He called Prahlad and said, "Son, tell me who your master is and where is he. I will kill you. If he is really your master, then let me protect you." Saying this, he took his sword and got ready to cut off Prahlad's head. But Prahlad did not have any kind of support. Prahlad replied that my master is present everywhere and is present in everyone. No one can kill me except him. The master always protects his devotees. O Narada. Hearing such words of Prahlad, Kanak Shishu said, "Son, if this is true, then why is he not visible to him in the pillar." Saying this, he swung his sword on the pillar. As soon as the sword hit, a very terrifying sound came from the pillar. In the eyes of the devotees, Vishnu Ji appeared from the pillar in the form of Nara Hari. He placed Brahma Ji and Kanak Shishu on one side. After this, Narhari made a very terrifying sound which echoed in all the three worlds. All the three people got frightened and the earth trembled. They started burning and the giants could not stay at their places. Seeing such a dreadful form of Narada Narhari, the gods could not stay there and ran away. At that time Vishnu ji and the great gods started praising him from a distance. Then I told him first that first you pacify Narhari and remove the sorrows of all people. Prahlad accepted my words and went to Narhari but even then his anger did not subside. Varun started shouting even louder. Then all the gods like Indra ran away from there and took refuge in Lord Shiva. Gods like Mahendra and Adhik Pal praised Lord Shiva and requested him that we all have come to your refuge. You should take such a measure by which Narhari's anger can be pacified. O Lord, similar kind of anger was shown by Veerbhadra to make Daksh's yagya a learned person and it was you who put it aside. We do not see anyone else except you who can pacify this fire of anger.
